Historical significance - site of the first agricultural show in Cowichan in 1869 (later and presently known as the Cowichan Exhibition Fair).

Further historical significance - the designer/builder in 1922 was Douglas James who practised architecture in the Duncan area from the early 1920's to 1943 and designed a number of similar homes in the valley as well as a number of downtown buildings, many of which still stand today. This home was one of several featured on a Heritage Home tour through the Cowichan Valley in 1997. Environmentally protected in 2015 by covenant registered against the title, taking in approximately 13 acres of the total 15.5 acres. This is an agreement between the property owner (carries with the property), and two holders, being Cowichan Land Trust of Duncan, B.C. and Habitat Aquisition Trust of Victoria, B.C.
