Ruxton Island is a 20 min boat ride from Ladysmith Harbour or 10 minutes from the Cedar boat ramp. Ruxton Island is unique because it has been kept as natural as possible. There are no ferries to the island and no paved roads. Transportation is by private boat or floatplane and once on the island residents use golf carts or ATV's to get around.

Take a moment to watch the sunrise from the new 45’ deck as you sip your morning coffee or tea. Feel the light ocean breeze on your skin as you watch the many types of birds singing and flying around the forest that surrounds the house.

Every window in the house looks out onto beautiful cedar, dogwood, spruce and towering arbutus trees to name a few. There is an apple orchard as well as pear, cherry and plum trees.

The house itself is over 800 square feet on the main level with an open floor plan. You will be able to cook and entertain your guests in the beautiful full size kitchen and cozy up to the woodburning stove in the living room. The wood stove heats the hot water in the winter time or there is a propane water heater for summertime use.

The bath/utility room has a six foot cast iron tub from the Empress Hotel in Victoria B.C. set into custom tile work. There is a large pantry in this room to accommodate food and storage. This area also boasts a stacking washer and dryer set as well as an under counter UV system for treating drinking water.

The property uses a rainwater collection system that has 3 - 2,000 gallon water tanks connected directly to the house and another 1,200 gallon gravity fed tank up the hill.

There is also an above ground swimming pool that holds 7,000 gallons of water to use for watering the trees and garden areas.

The upstairs level is almost 700 sq ft and has three bedroom areas, including a large, open master bedroom, a bunk bed area and a separate closed bedroom. There is also a space with a large desk to accommodate an in-home office. Both bedrooms have a water view of Danger Reef in the Stuart Channel. The upstairs also has a small utility room that houses the hot water tank and a roof access to clean the chimney and maintain the solar panels.

Joined to the house by a walkway is a storage building for the solar equipment and charging system. This is to run the six 100 watt solar panels on the roof and includes six 2900 amp hour Surrette batteries and a 2500 watt Magnum Inverter/100 amp charger. This is all wired into a regular house electrical panel. On cloudy days the Honda EU 3000 silent generator is on standby. Also under the same roof is the composting outhouse and more storage. The lower level of the building is covered storage for the Yamaha Kodiak 4x4 ATV as well as propane storage and fuel feed for the house.

Outside there is a 600 sq ft workshop with a wood burning stove and six huge windows. Across the yard is a 200 sq ft barn shaped guest house/storage shed with two lofts. This building has newer windows installed, is insulated and wired for electricity. It just needs some finishing touches to make it a cozy guest house!

Finally, there is a deep water mooring buoy installed in Whaleboat Bay at the south end of the Island which has been recently replaced.

Ruxton Island is an excellent location to enjoy the great outdoors that the Gulf Islands have to offer from boating, fishing, water sports, kayaking, hiking, exploring, beachcombing and so much more!
